Hot off the press! The 2019 High Town Living Advent Calendar programme is ready. It’s a programme of community events and you’re invited to all of them.
Last year's High Town Living Advent Calendar was a great success and, having listened to the feedback, we are back with some small differences.
We can't promise a different event every day this year, but we have collected up some of the best bits of last year's festival and combined them and there's something every weekend in December as well as a whole programme of events from different community groups across Luton.
If you live in High Town, chances are that you’ll receive one of these printed programmes through the letterbox soon. Alternatively, you can Download the High Town Living Advent Calendar 2019 [PDF]
This page lists events and church services that are happening this December as part of the Living Advent Calendar in High Town.
So, here's going on:
Sunday 1st December
'Classics by Candlelight' - 8pm St Matthews Church
A selection of classical music from two local talented musicians. This will take place in the beautiful and ambient space inside St Matthews Church by candlelight. Refreshments will be served.
Saturday 7th December
'Orchard Planting' - 10am People's Park
People's Park is getting a small, 20-tree orchard! It's the perfect time of year to plant these bare-root trees. Bring wellies, garden shovels and gloves and join in being part of an historic occasion to create a community orchard in our park!
Friday 13th December
'High Town Christmas Market' - 3.30pm-7pm St Matthews Primary School
It's back! This year it'll be bigger and more exciting. Including a Santa's Grotto and Carousel, this year's Christmas Market is also a fundraiser for St Matthews Primary School (all of it goes towards school trips for students).
If you'd like to book a stall, you can download the form here. But move quickly, it's first-come-first-serve.
We are also still looking for business sponsors to help cover some of the costs in return for some rather lovely publicity!
'The Big Fat Quiz of the Year' - 8pm Painter's Arms
It's a quiz all about the year that was 2019. Promise to keep the B-word and American politics to not much more than a mention! Find a team and come along. All money made goes to the Luton Foodbank.
Saturday 14th December
'Christmas Crafts' - 2-4pm Hope Church
A family-friendly event. Lots of local makers and creators are offering families a chance to come and make Christmas Crafts. There's a small 50p entrance fee for this one but then the crafts are all free inside. Don't miss out on making decorations, cards and maybe even presents for your loved ones!
Sunday 22nd December
'Carols and Christmas Ales' - 7.30pm Bricklayers Arms.
It really does what it says on the tin. Come along for carols accompanied by your favourite festive bevvy.
